Hodges

This is a house, likely dating from the early 18th century, with later additions from the late 19th and 20th centuries and some internal changes. The ground floor is built of Flemish bond brick, while the first floor is covered in tiles; it has a peg-tile roof, a brick stack, and a slate roof to a rear lean-to extension.

The original layout of the early 18th century probably comprised a two-cell plan, with a larger room to the east, originally heated by an end stack, and a smaller parlour to the west. The house has been extended with a separately roofed block at the east end and a rear lean-to.

The south-facing front has an asymmetrical arrangement of two windows followed by one. The front door is a plank door, located to the left of the centre, and it is sheltered by a flat porch hood. There are three-light, small-pane casement windows, two on each floor, likely dating to the 19th century, except for the first-floor window on the right, which is a modern plastic replacement in the original opening. The ground-floor window on the left has a segmental arched head. The addition at the right end has a 20th-century door below a two-light small-pane casement. The roof is hipped; the shaft of the left-hand stack has been removed. The rear elevation features two first-floor small-pane casement windows, probably from the 19th century, and a gabled attic dormer.

Inside, the room on the right-hand side of the ground floor shows exposed carpentry, largely consisting of re-used timbers. There is an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The left-hand room has replacement floor joists, and there is a 20th-century staircase. The roof was not inspected.
