Description
This is a house dating to around the 17th century, with significant rebuilding and extensions in the 18th century and alterations around the early 19th century. A further extension was added later in the 19th century. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond, with some timber-framing and tile hanging. The roof is hipped and covered with clay tiles, and there are brick stacks. The original layout comprised two rooms in the front (east) range, with a central entrance. The left (south) room has two timber-frame bays and an axial stack with a cross-passage. The right (north) end was rebuilt in the 18th century, behind which a room was added to form an L-shaped plan. In the early 19th century, the timber-framing of the south end was faced with brick, and later in the 19th century, an outshut was built at the rear. The east front has an asymmetrical arrangement of four windows. It features tall, two-light casement windows with glazing bars, set in cambered arch openings. A centre first-floor window has been blocked and replaced with a 20th-century window. A late 19th-century gabled brick porch sits centrally, and the right-hand two bays have higher eaves, a brick platband, and a plinth that continues onto the north return. At the rear, the main range’s roof slopes down as a catslide over the single-storey outshut, and there are 20th-century casement windows. The interior includes some exposed timber-framing and ceiling beams. One room contains 18th-century panelling, window shutters, a bolection fireplace, and panelled doors.
