Description

No 122 on London Road is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century, with some alterations made to the interior in the late 20th century. The building features Flemish bond brickwork on the ground floor and tile-hung framed construction on the first floor, topped with a peg-tile roof and brick stacks.

The house has an overall L-shaped plan, with the main range facing south. It is two rooms wide, with the left room probably originally serving as a parlour or kitchen, accompanied by an unheated service room in an integral rear outshut. This outshut has since been fitted with a stack, and the partition between it and the main room has been removed. The right room also appears to have been unheated originally, with a stack added later. The staircase is located against the rear wall of the right room. There is a large modern addition at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys tall with an attic and features an almost symmetrical three-bay front. A modern front door is located in the center, flanked by modern timber casement windows with glazing bars. The first floor has two similar windows, and there are modern gabled dormers in the attic. The roof is half-hipped at the right end, with a projecting stack on the left end and smaller stacks on the right end and rear outshut.

Inside, the house has been modernized but retains a large open fireplace in the principal room. The framing includes square cut jowls on the wall posts. The roof features side purlins, which are truncated for the dormer windows.
