Description

Woodstones is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame that is clad in Flemish bond red brick on the ground floor, while the first floor is covered in 20th-century pargetted render. The roof is made of plain tiles and has gabled ends. There are brick stacks, one axial and one gable end, located at the rear wing.

The house has a two-room plan in the front range, with a lobby entrance in front of the axial stack. The large room on the left side may have originally been two separate rooms. To the right of the center is a kitchen in the rear wing, which has a gable end stack and an outshut on the left (north) side.

The west front is asymmetrical with two storeys and features three windows. It has small 20th-century two-light casements and a gabled brick porch to the right of the center, which contains a plank door. The rear elevation is one storey and has an attic, with a large brick stack in the gable end, a gabled dormer on the south side, and a catslide roof over the outshut on the north side. There is also a 20th-century conservatory at the north end of the main range.

Inside, the large room on the left (north) has unchamfered intersecting axial and cross-beams, as well as unchamfered joists. It features a large brick fireplace with a light chamfered timber lintel, possibly with a timber frame stack above. The room has exposed posts and girts, and the two-and-a-half bay rear wing includes a brick stack in the half bay with a large fireplace that has a chamfered timber lintel. The interior also has a large unchamfered cross-beam, a chamfered axial beam, and exposed unchamfered joists. On the first floor, there are exposed wall-plates with face-halved scarf joints, wall studs, and ceiling beams, while the roof is ceiled.
