Description

Old Brewery Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on Redgates Lane, Sewards End, Saffron Walden. It is a timber-framed building, now largely rendered with pargetted surfaces, and topped with a gabled thatched roof. The cottage has one storey and attics. A central ridge stack is present, along with a rebuilt stack at the west end. Two eyebrow dormers are visible, along with a catslide thatched porch supported by brackets. The windows are small-paned casements. A long, weatherboarded lean-to extension with a slate roof and a further slate-roofed dormer are at the rear. The cottage exhibits characteristics of a true vernacular design, featuring jowled posts and a significant amount of reused timber.
