Description
Little Horden is a house dating from around 1600, which was altered and extended in the 18th century. It features a timber frame clad with red and blue chequered brick on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and a garret, standing on an English Bond brick plinth with pilaster buttresses supporting a corbelled cornice at the first floor. The eaves cornice is moulded, and the roof is swept, half-hipped to the left and hipped to the right. The right end window bay has been rebuilt at a later date. There is a tall, moulded stack located at the rear, towards the centre left. The original fenestration included two three-light wooden casements on each floor, with a central two-light casement on the first floor and a central six-panel door with a hipped hood. To the right on the first floor is a single casement, while the ground floor features paired casements. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot. Inside, the house has tongue-stopped chamfered spine beams and chamfered gunstock-jowled main posts in the frame, which were originally eccentrically braced. The roof has clasped purlins with some alterations, and the original roof structure includes raised-cruck-like principal rafters. Some early plank and muntin doors are still present.
