Description
This is a barn and outbuildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, located east of Old Swan Farmhouse. The barn is timber framed, weather boarded on a red brick base, and has been extended with red brick outbuildings that feature plain tiled roofs. The barn has a half-hipped roof and central cart doors. Inside, it consists of 3½ bays with a queen post roof, a ridge piece, clasped purlins, curved windbraces, and gunstock jowled main posts. Attached to the left is a one-storey stable block with a half-hipped roof, an external stair leading to a boarded loft door on the left side, a half-door at the front, and surviving stall partitions. At the right end of the barn, there is an early 19th-century cartshed with three bays, featuring an open arcaded front, and an attached wash-house that includes a stack, a casement window, a boarded door, and an old copper inside. The courtyard is enclosed by a red brick wall approximately 3 feet high.
