Description

Barling House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is timber-framed and has a ground floor to the front elevation, the right gable end, and the left return wing rebuilt in red brick, including some grey bricks in a Flemish bond pattern. The first floor is tile-hung, and the roof is tiled. The house has a lobby entry plan of two bays and a stack bay, with a left rear return wing that is either integral or slightly later. It is two storeys high with a garret, built on a brick plinth. The roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right. A broad central brick ridge stack runs along the ridge. The windows are irregularly placed, with three 2-light casements. There is a central ribbed door. A rear lean-to extends from the front range. Inside, there are gunstock jowls to the posts, and a tension brace to the left gable end, along with exposed timbers.
