SARRATT THE GREEN (Northeast side) Sarratt The Old Forge

GV II

House. Early C17, refronted and raised mid to late C18, extended early C20. Timber frame core. Red brick front, nogging and extension with sham timber framing. Tiled roof. 2 bays. 2 storeys. 2 ground floor 3 light casements and a blocked entrance with cambered heads. 2 first floor 3 light casements. Dentilled brick eaves. Right gable end has some exposed framing and a large C17 external stack, English bond base, cap rebuilt in C19. Flanking lean-tos that to rear hipped and probably an oven. Exposed framing to rear and first floor tilehanging. Left gable end exposed framing. 1 storey C20 addition to left. To rear left a 2 storey early C20 wing with casements, first floor sham framing, an extruded rear stack and a hipped roof. Entrance is in right return of this wing. Interior: chamfered binding beam, stop chamfered lintel to inglenook, jowled posts to clasped purlin roof. Neo-Tudor plaster ceiling on ground floor of early C20 rear wing.
