Description

Silfield House is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with later casing and extensions added in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. The core of the building is timber-framed and is cased and extended in red brick, with some parts whitewashed. The roofs are covered in tiles and slates.

The house has two storeys and originally consisted of two bays. There is an 18th-century addition to the left, which has two bays, and a three-bay 19th-century range at right angles further left, facing onto the Green. The entrance elevation faces Red Lion Lane. The earlier range is whitewashed and features a plinth, with the entrance located to the right. On the ground floor, there are two light casements with cambered heads, and two casements on the first floor, along with sprocket eaves.

The right gable end reveals exposed framing, including posts, a rail, studs, a tie beam, and queen struts to the collar. At the rear, there is an exposed post and an external stack with offsets, as well as a lean-to outshut. The 18th-century addition projects forward and has a large ground floor sash window with a cambered head, along with a three-light casement on the first floor and dentilled eaves. The taller ridge of the second bay, which has a hip to the left, is incorporated into the slate-roofed 19th-century block. This block features two windows at the front, and the original central entrance has been converted into a window with sashes and cambered heads on the ground floor. There is a right end stack and a lean-to at the rear with an entrance near the angle of the 18th-century range. The interior has not been inspected.
