Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, with some parts cased in the early to mid 19th century, and extended and altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging and is partially refronted in stock brick, topped by a tiled roof. The building has two bays and is one storey with an attic. The entrance is located in the right bay, which has a hood, and there is a 20th-century two-light casement window to the right. The exposed framing includes posts, a mid rail, and studs. The left bay contains a 20th-century three-light casement window in stock brick. There are two 20th-century two-light dormers on the roof. The right gable end displays an exposed cambered tie beam and queen struts, along with a 17th-century external stack featuring a flint base and offsets, which flanks oven lean-tos. The rear shows exposed studs and includes a 20th-century dormer. The entrance leads to a one-storey 20th-century rear addition. Inside, there are stop-chamfered binding beams and a fireplace lintel, as well as braced wall plates and tie beams supporting a clasped purlin roof.
