Description
Spring Cottage is a house that dates from the 16th century or early 17th century, but it was rebuilt in the late 18th century or early 19th century. Originally timber framed, it has been reconstructed using flint and brick, and is finished with whitewash and render. The roof is tiled. The building consists of two bays and has one storey with an attic.
On the ground floor, there are two sets of two-light timber casements set in brick surrounds, along with two light gabled half dormers and sprocket eaves. The right gable end features an entrance towards the front, with a plank door that has a cambered head, and one casement window. There is an external stack with a fixed casement window on the side facing the front, and tiled offsets lead to a free-standing shaft.
Attached to the left side of the house is a slightly lower three-bay barn that has been converted to form part of the dwelling. This barn is weatherboarded with a timber frame and has a gabled midstrey. Instead of doors, there are windows, with a two-light timber casement to the right and a leaded light in the top half of the stable door to the left. The rear elevation of the house is finished in red brick and features inserted casements. There are two stacks located at the rear of the barn.
