Description
This barn, located about 1 metre east of Nursery Farmhouse, dates from 1842 but incorporates much reused timber from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, sitting on a base of sandstone and red brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. The roof is hipped with gablets and has outshots to the left, right, and rear, with carriage doors located at the centre (the rear carriage doors are recessed between the outshots). There are two wooden casements on each floor, a glazed door to the left, and a boarded door to the centre left. Inside, the barn has a queen strut roof with tie beams at the first floor level that supported an inserted but now removed floor, along with studded partitions to the outshots. The rear wall is marked with "HPC 1842," indicating it is a rebuilt earlier structure.
