Description
Nos 2 and 4 Market Square are a pair of 18th-century weatherboarded houses located at the corner of London Road and Market Square. They are two storeys tall and feature a ridge mansard roof with a small leaded dormer in the center. The ground floor has 19th-century projecting shop fronts. On the first floor, there are two sash windows in exposed frames, with the left window having bars and the right window having the bars removed. In the center, there is a small square light. The houses have a moulded eave board with small flat modillions and a projecting bracketed gutter. The long right return facing London Road includes an early 19th-century three-storey, two-window weatherboarded extension, which has recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The lower parts of the building are made of rendered brick on a foundation of large stone rubble.
