Description

Old Meads and Sunnyside Cottage is a likely 17th-century timber-framed house that has been re-fronted and extended to the north in the early to mid-19th century. It is currently divided into two dwellings. The older section features a ground floor made of diapered brick and a first floor tiled with fishscale patterns, topped with a tiled roof. The building has two storeys and three windows with small paned casements. There is a six-panel door with a flat hood above it, and a blocked, segment-headed cellar window can be seen along with a brick plinth. The south end wall and chimney have been rebuilt.

The northern part of the building is also two storeys but has only one window. It is constructed of red brick with quoins and has a hipped tiled roof. This section includes a four-panel door with an oblong fanlight under a cambered arch.

The rear elevation features a lean-to on the south side and two small gabled wings to the north, one of which has a chimney. The building likely had an L-shaped original layout. Inside, exposed beams and joists are visible, with the beams displaying step-and tongue-stopped chamfers. The roof is supported by coupled rafters with high collars and ashlaring at the eaves, and some timbered partitions can still be seen.
