Description
Long Barn is a Grade II* listed building located in Sevenoaks Weald. The structure includes a 15th-century hall house at the back and a 16th-century house at right angles in front. Both parts are two storeys high and feature irregular windows. To the left of the 16th-century house is a gabled section, likely from the early 17th century, which also has two storeys and an attic with two windows, along with a modern extension. The buildings have high-pitched tiled roofs, with tile hanging above and brick below. The back of the barn reveals visible timber framing. There is an external stack at the rear part, facing the road, which is a 16th-century feature made of Tudor bricks and stone quoins, rebuilt above. Inside, the barn has been restored but retains much original timber and inglenooks. The narrow hall part has been opened up, showcasing visible crown posts. It is said to have been the residence of William Caxton, the first English printer.
