Description

This is a 17th-century house, now divided into two separate dwellings, which was altered and brick-cased in the 18th century, with further extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. The original timber-frame structure is now covered in red brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern. The steep-pitched roof is now slate-covered. The main house is two storeys and has attics, facing north, with a gabled, two-storey projection on the south side, and two-storey extensions at each end. The north front has two box dormers in the roof slope, large end chimneys, and a flush box sash window with 6/6 panes above the central entrance. To the right and left of the entrance are similar windows. The ground floor windows have been altered in the 19th century to recessed 2/2 pane sashes, with rendered reveals and flat arches. A six-panel fielded door is set within an 18th-century Doric wooden doorcase, which has a semi-circular fanlight and a triangular open pediment. The south front has flush box sashes, with one in the central projection featuring tall, narrow recesses on the returns. The extensions are set back from the south front, with a canted roof between them. The interior includes an 18th-century staircase and six- and four-panelled doors with cyma mouldings; cupboard doors have H-hinges. A southeast room contains an 18th-century wooden chimney-piece and a dentilled cornice. The site includes a partially moated area.
