Description

Wickhurst Manor is a house with a complex history, primarily dating to the 19th century and modern times, but retaining a significant medieval core as a stone hall. The roof structure is a notable feature, containing an intact octagonal crown post and truss. The parlour contains 16th-century panelling, and the present dining room has further panelling, which may have been imported. Also of interest is a fireplace with a carved stone surround dating to circa 1600, and a 17th-century staircase featuring spiral twist balusters. The original hall section is constructed of coursed rubble masonry with a tiled roof, and has restored 19th-century freestone dressings around windows with long mullions and transoms. A probable 14th-century stone doorway exists, with carved and moulded jambs and an ogee arch.
