Description
April Cottage is a tiny 15th century cottage situated 3 feet below ground level on the east side of French Street in Westerham. The building has two storeys and features two windows. There is a one-storey lean-to extension on the left and another one-storey extension with a door on the right. The cottage is constructed with square timber framing and diagonal braces, with wattle-and-daub filling on the first floor, painted brick below, and a rendered plinth. On the first floor to the left, there is one original diagonal mullioned fixed window. The other windows are casements, mostly made of old iron with restored leading. Inside, the cottage showcases much exposed timber, ancient fireplaces—including one with inglenooks—and massive old plank floors.
