Description
Sedley's Church of England Primary School and Gateway is a building that dates from the 17th and 19th centuries. The central feature is a 17th-century red brick porch with a gable, which has a tablet and cartouche above it. The porch has a tiled roof and a round-headed archway that leads to a 12-panelled door. The tablet is inscribed with the following: "This Schoole Founded byy peity of Sr John Sidley Baronet Anno Domini 1637. Augmented by Mrs Elizabeth Sidley his daughter Anno Dni 1639. Polished and maintained by Sr Charles Sidley Baronet his sone whom God long continue Anno Dni 1657. Amen." Above and behind the porch is a smaller gable. On either side of the porch, there is one window with two tiers of four lights, featuring wooden mullions and a transom. The west wall has two similar windows. There are 19th-century extensions to the north and south that match the original style. The building is a single storey, constructed of red brick with a tiled roof, and has a gable at the north end.
