Description

The buildings at 6 to 16 Charles Street, Herne Bay, date to approximately 1820. They are two-storied structures rendered in stucco, and exhibit a string course, a dentilled cornice, and a parapet. The windows are sash windows with intact glazing bars. Each building has a doorcase surmounted by a rectangular fanlight. Numbers 6 to 12 form a symmetrical block. The outer window bays of numbers 6 and 12 are flanked by Doric pilasters, with an architrave above the ground-floor window of each building. The next two window bays are recessed, and the two central bays are similarly treated with pilasters. Numbers 14 and 16 have a flush frontage without recesses or pilasters. Buildings 6 to 16 (even) are considered to form a group.
