Description

This is a terrace of ten houses, numbered 49 to 59 William Street, built around 1840 in Herne Bay. The houses are three storeys high with a basement and are constructed of stucco, though numbers 55 and 57, and the ground floor of number 51, have been pebbledashed. Numbers 49 has one window, while the others have two windows each. A cornice runs above the ground floor. Another cornice and a parapet, pierced with quatrefoil designs, sit above the second floor, with dripstones over the first and second floor windows. The ground floor bays have pointed arches containing five lights, each with a castellated parapet. Numbers 49 and 51 have pointed arch windows on both the ground and first floors. The first-floor windows have architrave surrounds, while the second-floor windows are plain sashes. The pointed arch doorcases, which are framed with moulded architraves (except for number 49, which has a porch), have pointed fanlights above each of the five-panel doors. These houses are part of a group that includes numbers 39 to 47 (odd), the North and South School Rooms, and the Church of Christ Church.
