Description

These are three pairs of cottages located on Winchester Road, Micheldever, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick with timber framing in the gables, and have thatched roofs. Each pair consists of two bays, with a half-bay added to one side, although numbers 98 and 99 feature a continuous rear range, while the others have a T-shaped plan with a shared rear wing. The cottages have entrances in the outer bay, each protected by a tiled gabled timber porch dating to the early 20th century. The inner bays contain a 19th-century three-light casement window, or a 20th-century replacement, positioned beneath a cambered brick arch with a soldier course of bricks, incorporating blue headers. Each cottage also features an eyebrow dormer window containing a 19th-century two-light leaded casement. The roofs are hipped, with wide eaves and a central ridge stack dating to the 19th century. The design is similar to cottages designed by Dance in East Stratton.
