Description
No. 1 (Hillrise) and No. 2 (Lovedean Cottage) are a pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century, with a bay added to the right cottage in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of rubble flint with brick dressings and feature a thatched roof. The cottages are 1½ storeys high and each has two bays. The right cottage likely received its matching bay in the late 19th century.
Each cottage has a central planked door set in a solid frame. The left cottage features a 19th-century brick plinth with a weatherboarded gabled porch, while the right cottage has a 20th-century timber and glass-sided gabled porch with a thatched roof. To the right of the right cottage's door are two 18th-century two-light cast iron casements with camber heads. Between the doors, there are two 19th-century two-light leaded casements, also with camber heads, and to the left end, there is a 20th-century two-light casement. Above each window, there is an eyebrow dormer with a two-light cast iron casement set in a plastered wall above the wallplate. The roof is hipped, with a stack located between the two cottages.
