Description
Nos 115 and 116 on Duke Street are a pair of cottages that date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a remodel that occurred around 1960. They are constructed from timber-frame and brick, finished with pebbledash, and feature a thatched roof. The cottages have a six-window range, with three windows in the longer cottage at 116, which is one and a half to two storeys high.
Cottage 116 has a 20th-century door and porch located between the right end and the second window from the right, along with a 20th-century steel window. Above this, there are three eyebrow dormers that are irregularly spaced, each containing 19th-century two-light casements.
Cottage 115 has a door with a tiled gabled porch situated between the centre and the second window from the left, along with one and two-light casements to the left. Above these windows, there are also 19th-century two-light casements. The roof of cottage 116 is higher with lower eaves and hipped ends, featuring a ridge piece with a stack for cottage 115 at the inner end of the left bay, and a stack for cottage 116 positioned above the door.
