Description

Griffins and Norsebury Cottages are a pair of cottages located on Winchester Road in Micheldever. They date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and were modernised in the mid-20th century. The cottages feature a colour-washed timber frame with brick infill and brick rendering, with roofs that are thatched and slated. The 17th-century cottage, known as Griffins, has a large external stack on the left and is now part of an added 18th-century cottage that has three windows and a wing at the rear. A 20th-century bay has been added to the right end.

The cottages are 1½ storeys tall and built on a plinth, with a total of five bays. The 17th-century cottage displays exposed timber framing with the ends of joists visible in the left bay, along with 20th-century leaded windows. The 18th-century building has an off-centre door beneath a 20th-century gabled timber porch and features 19th-century two-light camber-headed casements with glazing bars. Each bay has an eyebrow dormer with either 19th or 20th-century two-light casements, some with glazing bars and others with leaded lights. The 20th-century bay has two ground floor windows. The roof is half-hipped, with stacks at either end of the 17th-century building and at the centre of the 18th-century building, while the roof of the 20th-century bay is slated. At the rear, there is a thatched, timber-framed outshot.
