Description
House. Dating back to the 16th and 18th centuries, Perry’s Acre is a timber-frame building with wattle and daub and brick infill, and a thatched roof. The house is set at a right angle to the road with a four-bay timber-frame, featuring a central smokebay. An 18th-century half bay was added to the road end, and a further right wing was added to the far end. The two-storey, six-bay, 16th-century house on the garden side has square-panelled framing with diagonal braces, and butt ends of the first-floor joists are visible at the road end. There are 3 and 2-light casement windows in the bays, with a 18th-century doorway to the right of the smokebay. A blank half bay is present at the road end, and a blank gable faces the projecting single-storey right wing. The first floor also includes 3 and 2-light casements. The roof is hipped with a ridge piece, and a long ridge stack is positioned over the smokebay. A plan from 1730 indicates that the house's ground floor layout corresponds with its current appearance.
