Description
The Limes is a house that was previously a bakery, dating from the 16th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It features a timber-frame structure with brick infill and a rebuilt ground floor, with later sections made of colour-washed brick and a slated roof. The original 16th-century building has three bays and is positioned end-on to the road, with a 19th-century shop attached to the road end and an 18th-century range connected to the side of the central bay, which includes a projecting cross-wing at the end.
The road-facing side is 1½ storeys high, with a two-bay central range and a projecting bay at each end. To the right, in front of the 16th-century bay, there is a single-storey 19th-century shop featuring two 18-pane bow windows on either side of a half-glazed door, which has a rectangular fanlight above. The shop has an overhanging low-pitched roof with a moulded bargeboard. The central range has 19th-century doors at each end and a central three-light casement window. Above, there are two 19th-century gablet dormers with two-light casements. The left wing has two three-light casement windows. The roofs of the wings are half-hipped, with a ridge stack at the right end of the central range and a large ridge stack above the shop. Inside, behind the shop, there is old baking equipment.
