Description

Farthings and Fardells is a house with an attached cottage, dating from the early 17th century and 18th century. It features a timber frame with colour-washed brick infill, part of which is rendered, and a thatched roof. Fardells is a 4-bay, 1½-storey structure built on a plinth. It has a 20th-century door with a hood and a baffle entry located just left of the centre. To the left, there are small 1 and 2-light leaded casements in their original openings, while to the right are 2 and 3-light leaded casements. The timber frame is largely intact, showcasing small square panels and diagonal braces. Above, there are four eyebrow dormers with 18th-century 2-light leaded casements, with the sills cut into the wall plate and below them, 20th-century 2-light casements. The roof is half-hipped with a ridge piece and features a large multi-flued ridge stack left of centre, along with free-standing hip stacks at either end. To the left end, there is a lean-to with an asbestos sheet roof and a 19th-century 2-light casement. To the right, Farthings is a 2-storey, double-pile, 2-bay cottage with a lower ridged slated roof. It has a 19th-century door with a timber gabled porch to the left, and to the right, there are two 19th-century 2-light casements. Above, on the left, is a long 3-light window, and there is a central ridge brick stack.
