Description

This is a barn dating from the 18th century, likely from the second half, which incorporates earlier timbers and has been altered over time. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with weatherboard cladding and a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn consists of four bays with a rear aisle and added side outshuts. The original end walls still show old weatherboard, and there are opposing cart entries in the third bay. The right bay is now open at the front and is separated from the rest of the barn by a vertical-board partition. The roof is half-hipped. The outshut additions are open-fronted and have hipped roofs, with the left outshut featuring a wall made of flint and brick.

Inside the barn, the left-hand truss has distinctly jowelled wallposts, while the wallposts of the second truss are reused inverted crucks. The right bay also has jowelled wallposts. There are straight and curved braces connecting the wallposts to the tie-beams and wall plates. The roof structure includes collared queen-post trusses, with the second truss from the left having middle crucks. The barn has through purlins and wind braces at the cart entry bay. Additionally, there are remnants of a board threshing floor.
