Street Lamp In Front Of Number 52

The street lamp in front of number 52 on High Street in Fareham dates back to 1897. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical plinth that displays a date panel and the name of the town. Rising from the plinth is a shaft with a bulbous base, adorned with floral bas relief decoration. The shaft includes an enriched band and ends with a cornice that has cross arms. It is fitted with a large curved lamp bracket featuring scrolls, which now holds an electric light. This lamp is part of a group of listed buildings along High Street and Union Street, which includes numbers 1 and 2, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and number 10 East Street. Number 45 on High Street is noted for its local interest.
