Description

The street lamp outside number 57 on High Street in Fareham dates from 1897 and is made of cast iron. It features a cylindrical plinth that includes a date panel and the name of the town. Rising from this plinth is a short shaft with a bulbous base, decorated with floral bas relief. The shaft has an enriched band and ends in a cornice with cross arms. It is fitted with a large curved lamp bracket adorned with scrolls, now holding an electric light. This lamp is part of a group of listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, which includes the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and number 10 East Street.
