Description

No 63 on High Street is a building from the later 19th century featuring a white brick facade accented with stucco and red brick bands. It has a red brick eaves cornice and a tiled roof decorated with fishscale patterns in brown tiles, along with end chimneys. The structure is two storeys tall with a basement and includes a central pedimented dormer that breaks through the eaves. The building has three bays, each with paired unbarred sash windows set beneath paired engraved segmental stuccoed arches. Broad stucco bands run at the impost height, and there are stucco string courses at the sill height. Pilasters flank the sides and the central bay. The entrance door is adorned with an elaborate scrolled stucco pediment, featuring swags on the tympanum. Fluted pilasters rise to finials above a moulded cornice. The door itself consists of six panels and is set within a glazed surround, topped by a rectangular fanlight. This building is included for its group value, as it is part of a collection of listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, which includes listed street lamps, Nos 1 and 2, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and No 10 East Street. No 45 on High Street is noted for its local interest.
