Description

This property comprises two buildings at numbers 55 and 56 High Street, Fareham. It likely dates to the 18th century or earlier, and may originally have been timber-framed. The exterior is stuccoed and has a tiled roof. The building is two stories high with a symmetrical arrangement of four windows. The windows are early 19th century casements and sash windows, and most feature missing glazing bars, although the southern window has modern glazing. There are two altered 19th-century shop fronts. Number 55 has a six-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed, and a bracketed flat hood above the door. The listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, together with the listed street lamps, numbers 1 and 2, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul on Church Place, the Red Lion Hotel, and number 10 East Street form a group of buildings of group value.
