Description

The street lamp located just south of Number 29 on High Street in Fareham dates back to 1897. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical plinth that displays a date panel and the name of the town. Rising from the plinth is a shaft with a bulbous base adorned with floral bas relief decoration. The shaft includes an enriched band and culminates in a cornice with cross arms, supporting a large curved lamp bracket with scrolls, which is now fitted with an electric light. This lamp is part of a group of listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, which includes other street lamps, Nos 1 and 2, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and No 10 East Street. Additionally, No 45 on High Street holds local interest.
