Description
The street lamp located to the north of number 76 on High Street in Fareham dates back to 1897. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical plinth that includes a date panel and the name of the town. Rising from the plinth is a shaft with a bulbous base that showcases floral bas relief decoration. The shaft has an enriched band and culminates in a cornice with cross arms, supporting a large curved lamp bracket with scrolls, which is now fitted with an electric light. This lamp is part of a group of listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, which includes the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and number 10 East Street, as well as numbers 1 and 2. Number 45 on High Street is noted for its local interest.
