Description
Old Sweetshop Cottage is a pair of early 19th century cottages located on the west side of High Street in Fareham. The cottages are constructed of painted brick and feature a brick modillion eaves cornice beneath a hipped, old tiled roof. They are two storeys high and have a total of three windows, which are sashes with glazing bars and moulded boxed frames. The ground floor windows have cambered head linings. Number 30 includes a small curved shop window with intact glazing bars. Each cottage has a six-panelled door, with the top two panels of the doors for Nos 30A and 32 now glazed. Nos 31 and 32 have small flat canopies above their doors, and there is an additional side entrance. These cottages, along with the other listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, including the listed street lamps, form a group with Nos 1 and 2 and the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Church Place, as well as the Red Lion Hotel and No 10 East Street. Number 45 on High Street is noted for its local interest.
