Description

The street lamp outside number 2 on High Street in Fareham dates from 1897 and is made of cast iron. It features a cylindrical plinth that has a date panel and the name of the town. Rising from this plinth is a shaft with a bulbous base that is decorated with floral bas relief. The shaft includes an enriched band and ends in a cornice with cross arms, supporting a large curved lamp bracket with scrolls. The lamp is currently fitted with an electric light. This lamp is part of a group of listed buildings on High Street and Union Street, which includes numbers 1 and 2, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the Red Lion Hotel, and number 10 East Street. Number 45 on High Street is noted for its local interest.
