Description

This 18th-century milestone is located on the grass verge at the back of the pavement, 500 metres east of the junction with Sonning Lane, along Bath Road in Sonning. The stone features incised Roman lettering. On the east face, it indicates distances to Maidenhead (10 miles) and Colnbrook (19 miles). The west face shows distances to Reading (3 miles), Newbury (20 miles), and Bath (72 miles). Additionally, the base of the milestone notes a distance to London (36 miles). Originally, this milestone was situated 70 metres to the south on the Old Bath Road.
