Description

The Grove is an early 17th-century house, originally known as Sonning Grove, situated on the south side of Pearson Road. The house is built with a timber frame and is rendered with painted stucco, featuring an old tile roof and chimneys. The left-hand chimney has three diagonal shafts, rebuilt on an original base. The north front has three flush gables, with slightly projecting tympana. Each gable contains a two-light sliding casement window from the early 19th century, featuring glazing bars. Below the gables are two bays with sash windows, also with heavy glazing bars, set within architrave frames. The central gable has two similar windows on the upper floor and a central six-panelled door. The door is framed by a moulded architrave surround and an entablature hood with carved foliage in the frieze and carved drops at the corners.
