Description

Grove House and Grove View are two houses with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring a significant extension from the early 18th century, and further alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are rendered and topped with double Roman tile roofs. The roadside house has been extended with a main garden wing.

The garden elevation, which faces east, is two stories high and has four windows featuring 18-pane glazing bar sashes with thick bars, except for one first-floor window that has eight panes. There is an eight-panel door located off-centre to the right, sheltered by a flat hood supported by floreate corbels, and a later pitched roof with protruding eaves. To the right, the earlier house is lower and has two stories beneath a hipped roof, with one 19th-century casement window below paired sashes. The rear elevation also has three windows similar to those on the garden side.

The elevation that is perpendicular to the road, known as Grove View, is two and a half stories tall with three windows featuring 19th-century glazing bar sashes. It includes a central gabled porch and gabled eaves dormers.

Inside, the principal ground floor rooms are fully panelled, featuring a moulded dado rail and an attractive moulded cornice that projects over the windows. There is an eight-panel door and intact shutters. The panelled staircase includes a moulded handrail and turned balusters, and there is a stop-chamfered beam in the room to the north.
