Description
Sisters' House, formerly known as Frenchay Park, is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the mid to late 18th century and extended in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has slate roofs. The main block is three storeys high with an attic and features five windows. The later wings are two storeys and have three windows in cylindrical bays. All windows are glazing bar sashes.
The front of the main block has a central Ionic glazed porch with a fanlight above the door. The windows are framed with moulded architraves that are vertically joined by fielded panels. At the ends, rusticated pilasters rise to a cornice beneath a tall parapet that has a balustrade, newels, and urns. The later wings also have moulded architraves, a cornice, and a low parapet, with the outer edges breaking forward to rusticated corner pilasters topped with urns. These wings return plainly around the earlier house and are connected at the back by a later low wing, creating a simple garden front.
Inside, there is a panelled entrance hall with fluted square columns and a Doric cornice, as well as a marble floor with black dots. The main staircase is an open well design with a moulded handrail and turned barley sugar balusters. There is also an early 19th-century rear staircase located off the vestibule, which is top-lit and features Ionic columns.
