Description
Frenchay Lodge East, Penn House, and Frenchay Lodge West is a house that has been divided into three residences. It likely has origins from the 17th century, but its exterior reflects mid-18th century and later alterations. The building is roughcast with slate roofs and features a main block that is 2½ storeys high with nine windows, all of which are glazing bar sashes. On the left side, there are three gabled dormers with decorative bargeboards, while the right side has two hipped dormers set behind a parapet, topped with a heavily moulded cornice. The entrance door, originally positioned centrally, is now located at the center of the five bays to the right. It has a substantial Gibbsian surround with voussoirs, a keystone, and a pediment. There is also a smaller door inserted off-center to the left. To the south, there is a large projecting hipped two-storey canted bay that has three glazing bar sash windows with pelmets, quoins, a string course, and a light cornice gutter. Additionally, there is a single-storey blank gabled wing with an ornate ball finial, which has long glazing bar sashes flanking later inserted French doors.
