Description

River Wood House, originally known as The Grove, is an early 19th-century house, now converted into flats. It is constructed with rendered walls, freestone dressings, and a slate roof. The house is two storeys and an attic, with four windows on the front elevation. Most windows are 16-pane glazing bar sashes set within shouldered architraves. A hipped wing to the right has a single window. A central portico features plain square columns supporting an entablature and a substantial projecting cornice. The portico has a 20th-century door with a fanlight above. Inserted windows are present to the right, including a glazing bar sash in a plain architrave on the ground floor, and an elliptical window above. The building has end pilasters, a heavy moulded cornice, and a parapet that rises to form a central segmental arch opening.
