Description

Grove Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage, significantly altered over time. It is two storeys high and built of painted brick, with a first-floor string course and a painted, moulded eaves cornice supported by brackets. The roof is hipped and covered in old tiles, with a central chimney featuring an offset head and pilasters. The south front originally had five bays. The upper windows are sash windows; the central one is a narrow two-pane window, while the others are three panes wide. The second bay from the right has been blocked, and the outer windows have also been altered. All windows have segmental heads. The central three bays of the ground floor are covered by an early 19th-century closed stucco porch, which has been altered from its original design of four slender columns and an entablature; it is now filled in with brickwork. The porch contains a six-panelled door with small lights in the outer panels. An insurance plaque is affixed to the front elevation. An altered service wing is located to the left. Inside, there is some timber panelling on the ground floor.
