Description
Corner Cottage is a house that originated as a cottage in the late 16th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The structure features a mix of timber framing with painted brick infill and sections of painted brick. It has an old tile gabled roof and a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays, with a small lean-to extension on the left and a larger extension on the right. The building stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a chimney on the ridge and external chimneys on each gable end, all topped with clay pots.
The west-facing front has a left section that is timber framed with three bays, showcasing three 2-light windows on the first floor and two similar windows on the ground floor. There is an early 20th-century gabled porch with an entrance door located to the left of the windows. The right section is made of painted brick and consists of one bay, featuring a gabled roof dormer with a 2-light window and a larger 2-light window on the ground floor. Inside, the cottage retains its exposed timber frame, with some ground floor joists displaying stop-chamfered ends. The roof structure includes a queen post truss with clasped purlins and straight braces.
