Description
Heywood Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid 17th century and was altered in the mid 18th century, with an extension added in the mid 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features an old tile, steeply-pitched hipped roof. It has a rectangular plan with a lower extension on the north side and stands two storeys high with attics. There are two chimneys topped with clay pots. The exterior includes a projecting plinth, a plat band at the first floor, and boxed eaves.
The entrance front, facing south, is symmetrical with two bays. It features a flat roof dormer with a two-light casement window, and the entrance door has six fielded panels topped by a fanlight with gothic tracery. A porch with a shallow slate hipped roof is supported by wooden columns. To the right, there is a later bay window with a moulded cornice and two sash windows with glazing bars in the upper sash.
Inside, there is a 17th-century newel staircase that leads to the attics, and some beams are visible with stop-chamfers and shield stops.
