Description
1A Castle Street is a circa 1840 building of three storeys. The exterior is cement rendered with a slate gable end roof concealed by a parapet, which features coping and a block cornice. The second floor has a recessed sash window with glazing bars and a block sill. A later bay window of three lights with sash glazing bars is on the first floor, supported by Tuscan pilasters, a frieze and a cornice. The mid-19th century shop front has chamfered pilasters, consoles, and gabled caps. A cornice breaks forward in line with the first-floor bay window. The central mullion divides the shop window into two panes with rounded corners, above panelled risers. The building forms a group with Nos 1, 2, and 2A Union Street.
