  1. Circa 1830/40. Corner site with the Esplanade. Three storeys, different levels due to sloping site, painted brick and stuccoed ground floor. Gable end and hipped slate roof curved round corner, shallow eaves cornice. On Union Street first floor flat fronted bow window of three lights, sash, glazing bars, Tuscan pilasters, apron, frieze and cornice breaking forward slightly to centre. Other windows recessed, one blocked and one fixed with moulded frame, otherwise sash, glazing bars intact, block sills, flat brick arches. No 1A shop front retains part of mid C19 frame with pilasters and moulded cornice, small plate glass window. Corner section of three windows, recessed sashes with some glazing bars, as on Union Street, centre one second floor blind, no glazing bars first floor and centre one full length two light transomed casement. Ground floor frame of mid C19 shop front with pilasters frieze and moulded cornice. Two fixed windows glazing bars survive in upper part with rounded corners to panes. Central door glazed, moulded lintel, square fanlight over. Stepped surround.

Nos 1 and 1A form a group with No 1 Esplanade.
