Description
Nos 5 and 5A on Middle Street are likely from the early 19th century. The building has three storeys and features four windows. It is constructed of painted brick with a tiled roof and a moulded brick chimney-stack. The eaves cornice is decorated with modillions, and there are rusticated quoins at the corners. Between the first and second floors, there are circular moulded braces. The north-facing sash windows have some missing glazing bars, while a triple sash window on the second floor facing west retains its glazing bars. On the first floor to the west, there is a Venetian window with a moulded surround, but its glazing bars are missing. The ground floor has modern shop fronts. Nos 5 and 5A are part of a group with Nos 1 to 4 on South Street.
